Heraklion is a Mediterranean treasure
So Hong Kong remains top of the world when it comes to tourist numbers with Euromonitor’s recent annual report clocking it in at 26 million. Interestingly, the Cretan capital of Heraklion is the fastest growing in Europe, up 11.2% this year. The statistics across all categories only include tourists who have stayed for 24 hours or more – day-trippers don’t count. A crazy, haphazard, car-clogged city, Heraklion still has its charms – not least its Minoan treasures, both at Knossos and in its fantastic archaeological museum. Great to see a Greek destination, and my favourite Mediterranean island, on the up.
