Al Porter and a rush to judgment

I’m shocked at how rapidly Al Porter’s career appears to be falling apart.

Within days of a handful of sex-pest allegations, he has had to step down from his radio job and quit his Christmas panto role. The future of his TV show, Blind Date, is also in doubt.

I have no idea about what is or isn’t true in Porter’s case but at this stage he is one of many to have come under attack over sex allegations. What’s disturbing is that there’s no court involved, no criminal conviction, no formal processing of evidence. At this point, all it seems to take is a few allegations posted on Twitter and the accused person’s career is as good as over. This isn’t a healthy situation.
