Trump defiant as Kushner is dragged into Russia probe
DEFIANT Donald Trump last night declared he was ‘not worried’ about reports that his son-in-law could be dragged into an official investigation into whether Russia interfered in the US presidential election. His comments came less than 24 hours after former US national security adviser General Michael Flynn admitted that he lied to the FBI about his contact with Kremlin officials before the 2016 contest.
As the president left the White House yesterday he insisted there had been ‘absolutely no collusion’ between his team and the Russians.
The Trump presidency has been dogged by claims he won the election because of interference by Vladimir Putin. An official congressional probe was set up to investigate the claims, headed by special counsel Robert Mueller.
On Friday, Mr Flynn admitted he had lied to the FBI and would now be ‘cooperating fully’ with the Mueller investigation.
Several US news outlets quoted ‘sources’ as saying Mr Flynn will accuse Mr Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner – who is married to Mr Trump’s daughter Ivanka – of ‘ordering’ Mr Flynn to contact Russian officials on behalf of the Trump campaign.
Both Mr Kushner and Mr Trump have always vehemently denied any Russian connection and President Putin laughed it off.
