Two killed in Israeli jet attack
TWO people were killed and 15 injured when Israeli warplanes pounded Gaza on Friday night.
The air strikes heralded a fourth day of protests against US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the Israeli capital continued. Israel said its missiles were aimed at weapons sites and that the two men killed were Hamas members. It was a response to rocket fire from the Gaza Strip on Friday.
Israeli-Palestinian tensions have risen since Mr Trump’s declaration.
Israel has always regarded Jerusalem as its capital, while Palestinians claim East Jerusalem – occupied by Israel in the 1967 war – as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
