Clear majority to repeal Eighth – poll
More than three in five of voters are in favour of changing the Constitution to allow for greater access to abortion, according to an Irish Times/Ipsos MrBI poll.
Sixty-two per cent of respondents would vote to change the Constitution to allow the oireachtas to legislate for greater access to abortion. over a quarter (26%) would vote against such a change, 13% had no opinion.
Urban, young and better-off voters showed stronger support for repealing the eighth Amendment, with support for the move consistent among supporters of all political parties.
The poll was conducted on Monday and Tuesday of this week among 1,200 voters.
