IT WAS just the lift Strictly Come Dancing needed after a week dogged by allegations of infighting and racism.
Holby City star Joe McFadden and professional partner Katya Jones rose to the occasion of last night’s live semi final. The pair elicited gasps from the studio audience when they danced an American Smooth to Have You Met Miss Jones? by Robbie Williams and a tango to Human by Rag’n’ Bone Man. In the second dance they pulled off a remarkable move in which Katya cantilevered Joe out in front of her – an incredible display of strength. Russian-born Katya had her work cut out last year when she was paired with gauche politician Ed Balls. This time she and Joe are being seen as serious contenders.
The show has been dogged by controversies. The voting audience was accused of racism because of the number of black and Asian contestants sent home early.
There have also been reports of feuds between dancers, and another between judges Shirley Ballas and Darcey Bussell – all of whom laughed off the stories.
