The worst Christmas present Brendan ever gave his boy

- By Nick Bramhill

BRENDAN O’CARROLL has revealed he once had a real-life Christmas disaster that was just as ridiculous as the ones he creates for his alter ego Agnes Brown.

The Dubliner has lined up more festive mayhem for TV viewers, as his smash-hit show Mrs Brown’s Boys returns for two new episodes this Christmas and new year.

But recalling his own most embarrassing Christmas, the 62-year-old said: ‘When my son Danny [who plays Buster in the show] was about six, he wanted an ice-skating outfit for Christmas.

‘Eventually, I found one in a mail-order catalogue, so I ordered it and it came in lovely packaging. On Christmas morning, he was just over the moon, but the outfit was an XXL... he could have lived in it. ‘He wore this massive thing to Mass and it was like we’d taken ET with us.’ However, O’Carroll stressed the festive season has always been his favourite time of the year, with his fondest memories of his early years growing up in an impoverished household in Finglas, Co. Dublin. He told TV Times: ‘We live in Florida, but it’s not very Christmassy there, so every year we go home to Dublin for Christmas and I wouldn’t miss it for the world.’
