Alarming rise in county spending

LOOK at the figures for GAA county expenditure that are rolling in across the country – it’s eyepopping stuff. It’s become almost normal to hear counties topping the €1million mark.

I just think the next decade is vital in terms of whether the county scene goes past the point of no return in terms of finance. I’ve talked to people high up in Croke Park and they don’t know how to rein in the spending. Is a spending cap the answer? The response to that straight away is that it is stopping progress. The nature of the rising costs hardly constitute progress though either.
