Disband this band

-

I like a tune as well as the next man or woman but the Garda Band seems like an unnecessary expense.

I agree that the national ploughing championships and the Rose of Tralee are greatly enhanced by our musical police but should the taxpayer be footing the entertainment bill for such events?

Why not let them out with their instruments? Could they not patrol the streets with instrument in hand, perhaps modifying a trumpet into a breathalyser allowing the drink-driving suspect to blow into the trumpet? This could be linked to an app that records the penalty points accurately.

Yes, let the ploughing championship and the Rose Of Tralee hire their own bands and let our musical gardaí off the stage and onto the streets. Gerard Corrigan, Castletroy, Co. Limerick.
