Story of free tickets to the Abbey... to be continued!

- By Jake Hurfurt

FOLLOWING the rave reviews the scheme received in 2017, The Abbey Theatre has said it will carry on giving away free tickets to previews to every production as part of its plan to open the theatre to more people.

Every production at the Abbey last year had one performance where the entire theatre was filled with free tickets, given out on a first-come-first-served basis under the Free First Preview scheme. The scheme will now be extended to the theatre’s secondary stage, the Peacock. Neil Murray, a co-director of the Abbey, said he views the free previews as one of the biggest successes of his tenure, with up to 500 people queuing for tickets to some performances.

Though he admits it’s not all newcomers who use the scheme, he said it helps people who can’t afford tickets to every play, to experience more shows. To book, visit: abbeytheatre.ie/free-firstpreviews/
