A belly eclectic mix of lots up for auction
FROM booze to bicycles, Whyte’s next Eclectic Collector sale offers up for auction a fascinating snapshot of Irish history.
Rock fans might be interested in the costume worn by French belly dancer Yasmina Bouhebbal who took part in U2’s Zoo TV tour in the mid-1990s. The sequined bra, fitted hip belt and full-length skirt has a guide price of €300-€500.
A more literary buyer might be interested in a set of letters, plays and poems by Irish artist Christy Brown, best known for his autobiography My Left Foot.
Hundreds of pages of complete and incomplete works, as well as personal letters, make up the lot that will provide a look into the mind of an Irish literary genius.
Older than some of the letters is a 37-year-old bottle of Jameson’s whiskey that was put into the cask in 1949, almost 70 years ago.
One of the most unusual items is a bicycle owned by Philomena Lynott, the mother of Thin Lizzy front man Phil Lynott. Included in the lot is a picture of Philomena, now 87, together with a cutout of her son with the bike.
It is expected to sell for around €1,000.
