I’m engaged to marry my ‘Perfect’ childhood sweetheart, pop giant Ed tells his 18 million Instagram followers
HE described her as ‘Perfect’ in his Christmas No.1 and now singer Ed Sheeran has confirmed it – by proposing to his childhood sweetheart girlfriend, Cherry Seaborn.
The ginger-haired pop star revealed yesterday that he had popped the question by posting a photograph of him kissing Cherry to his 18 million followers on Instagram.
Under his Instagram ‘handle’ teddys-photos, Ed wrote: ‘Got myself a fiance [sic] just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx.’
The post received more than a half a million likes from fans in just 20 minutes – but those who know the words to Perfect will not have been surprised. In the song, Ed croons: ‘Well I found a girl beautiful and sweet/ I never knew you were the someone waiting for me/ Cause we were just kids when we fell in love.’
They have been dating since 2015 but Ed, 26, was in the year above Cherry, 25, at Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk, east England, and is said to have had a crush on her then.
Ed sang the praises of biology graduate Ms Seaborn last year when he said of his career: ‘That’s not reality. One day this will end. And I know the one person that’s going to remain constant is Cherry. I should just enjoy this while it’s there but not let it become my reality. Because that’s not the reality I want to live in.’
Ms Seaborn has played hockey for England at U18 and U21 level and now works in London for Deloitte as a risk advisory consultant.
Ed has previously been linked with fellow singers Taylor Swift and Ellie Goulding.
