Our school uniforms don’t take years off us!

THE sitcom Derry Girls is the TV hit of the new year, turning its fine cast into overnight stars, not least the actress Nicola Coughlan, pictured, who has just celebrated her 31st birthday.

The Galway actress’s ability to play a teenage schoolgirl so convincingly was attributed to many things including the rejuvenating effects of wearing a school uniform.

Clearly whoever came up with that theory has never seen the dowdy and matronly garb that passes for school uniforms on this side of the border.

They put years on our unfortunate schoolgirls, not the other way around.
