New smarter, sleeker student digs
FORGET dreary second-hand furniture and peeling flock wallpaper. Student accommodation in Dublin is set to get a whole lot smarter and sleeker with the launch of a new development near the city’s DIT.
Ardcairn House, a new development in Dublin 7, will appeal to students who want to live in the lap of luxury while attending DIT’s new Grangegorman campus – as long as they can cough up rent of up to €380 per week. Even the cheapest rooms in the halls of residence, which have their own bathroom, come in at €260 a week, more than double the €117 cited by DIT as the average student spend on rent in Dublin.
For the eye-watering sum, residents of Ardcairn House will have access to a private gym, a dedicated cinema room and even an in-house bowling alley.
Building work is still ongoing at the accommodation block, which is expected to open in September.
An artist’s impression of the accommodation depicts decor that wouldn’t look out of place in a boutique hotel, with cool colour schemes and ultra-modern furniture.
However, the maximum students can claim in maintenance grants is €5,915 – or just 15 weeks’ rent in the cheapest room.
