McBrearty fires Donegal to final
PATRICK McBREARTY was the driving force for Donegal as they overcame Armagh in last night’s rearranged Dr McKenna Cup semi-final.
With both Ballybofey and Armagh both failing morning pitch inspections, Celtic Park in Derry played host to an open semi-final and one in which Kilcar forward McBrearty thrived, kicking eight points in all.
But Declan Bonner’s team didn’t have it all their own way, especially in the first half where Eamon McGeown was a handful at full-forward.
McGeown, after an excellently fielded ball and initial shot that was saved by Donegal keeper Mark Anthony McGinley, tucked home a goal for Kieran McGeeney’s side on 12 minutes.
That established a lead of 1-3 to 0-2 but from then on, Donegal took control, with McBrearty kicking six first-half points.
It was level, 1-6 to 0-9, at half-time but Donegal pushed on after the break,
