Roundabout farce

-

Construction of the Empire State Building in New York commenced on March 17, 1930. The building stands 1,454ft tall, has 102 storeys and was opened on May 1, 1931, just 13-and-a-half months later.

There is a traffic roundabout in South Dublin at the junction of Wellington Road, Wellington Lane and Orwell Road currently undergoing a makeover. The original roundabout was perfectly functional.

I cannot understand why South Dublin County Council felt the need to beautify this roundabout. Work has been ongoing on this project for almost as long as it took to erect the Empire State Building. Could the council not find a more worthy and more needy cause to spend what must be vast amounts of public money?
