Rory Best: I went to the rape trial because I’m a character witness
IrIsh rugby captain rory best broke his silence last night on his attendance at the belfast rape trial this week.
he had declined to comment when asked about it on Friday.
Asked again after Ireland’s dramatic victory in Paris, best – who is an ulster team mate of Paddy Jackson’s – said: ‘We sign out on a Tuesday night and Wednesday is a day off, so we don’t need permission to do stuff in our own time.
‘The reason I was there, it’s on the record, I was called as a character witness, and I was advised that it is important that I got both sides of the story so I could make an informed decision about that.’
