Accountability is vital

THE University of Limerick misled the comptroller and auditor general and other State bodies when it made unauthorised severance payments of more than €1m, the Irish Mail On Sunday today reveals. This is similar to the arrogance shown by other bodies in receipt of public money, not least charities. If a university, charity or any such body receives even €1 of public money, all its accounts must also be public. If it hides that information, it must face sanction, legal if necessary.
