WHAT’S ON
Canadian hip hop artist Jahron Braithwaite (pictured) promises a Party Next Door, if his stage name is anything to go by. Get down or even get on up to the Olympia Theatre tonight for good times. No less welcome a visitor to our shores this week is Beth Orton who plays Whelan’s in Dublin tonight and the Róisín Dubh in Galway tomorrow evening. The ever excellent British Sea Power play Cork’s Cyprus Avenue tomorrow, Whelan’s on Tuesday and the The Limelight 2 on Belfast on Wednesday. Veteran countryrockers The Mavericks are also travelling north and south. They are in Belfast’s Limelight on Tuesday and Vicar Street, Dublin on Wednesday.
The Lost Brothers are like a band out of time channelling the sounds of mid-20th century Americana. Catch them in Dublin’s Sugar Club on Thursday; Wexford Arts Centre on Friday and St Patrick’s Gateway Centre in Waterford on Saturday.
The Felonies are definitely one to watch. They played a blistering show in Dublin recently and the Wicklow band are in the Workman’s Club on Thursday. The Script play Belfast’s SSE Arena on Tuesday before taking up residency down in the 3Arena on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. As we told you last week, Donegal rockers The Revs are in Dublin’s Academy on Saturday for a one-off show. You can also catch Eighties hitmakers The Christians in the downstairs room in the same venue.
Franz Ferdinand are very much back on form, as their new album, Always Ascending proves. Catch the Scottish art-rockers in Galway ÷ Leisureland on Saturday.
