THINKING BIG ON RURAL BROADBAND

-

This week we discovered that the tender process for the National Broadband Plan has been reduced to one company as Eir withdrew. Some sharp thinking may now be required in order get relatively cheap, reliable broadband to isolated customers. OneWeb, founded by businessman Greg Wyler are creating a network of low-earth orbit satellites that could bring broadband to the most remote homes. Tesla founder, Elon Musk is also working on a similar satellite network for a similar service. Should we be thinking different about how Ireland’s national broadband plan is powered?
