The Cork-Wexford trilogy of 1993

-

JUST as the four-match football saga between Meath and Dublin in 1991 took on a life of its own and Offaly’s trilogy with Clare is remembered so well, the National League hurling final of 1993 carried an epic sweep.

On May 9, the first game ended 2-11 apiece, Larry Murphy and Éamonn Scallan grabbing the goals for Wexford with Ger Manley plundering a brace for Cork.

The Model County had their chances of winning in a titanic replay at the same venue the following Sunday when even extra-time couldn’t separate the competing sides.

Six days later, they did it all again, this time Cork winning 3-11 to 1-12 with a youthful Brian Corcoran (above) lifting the trophy for the Leesiders.
