Lack of talent is not Cody’s fault

-

SOME of the commentary on Brian Cody is interesting. It’s the first time people have really started to ask questions of him. He has rebuilt the Kilkenny team on at least four occasions – the difference this time is that there are so many gaps to be filled in the team, especially now with Paul Murphy, Colin Fennelly and more missing.

I’m intrigued with the spirit that still endures. Eleven down against Clare, it looked like they would be beaten out the gate. Next thing you know, they’re trying to win the match in injury time.

It shows that you can do all the training and spend all the money but that belief goes a long way, belief that took nearly 30 years for Galway to discover. Kilkenny have it in abundance. It has never been as strong as during the Cody era.

At the moment, it looks like he is rushing players in. Pádraig Walsh is an outstanding wing back. So it’s emergency stuff to have him full-back. Maybe Kilkenny don’t have the players, for once.

That’s not Brian Cody’s fault.
