Carlow in fine form as Dublin ladies win

- By Alan Morrissey

CARLOW recorded their third win of the Allianz National Football League Division 4 when they overcame Leitrim 2-11 to 0-5 at Netwatch Cullen Park yesterday.

John Murphy scored both goals for the home side who were 15 to 0-4 ahead at the interval.

Murphy’s first goal came from a penalty as Carlow, who had beaten London and Leitrim in their opening two games, raced into a 1-3 to 0-0 advantage on nine minutes.

It was 2-8 to 0-4 when Murphy added his second on 42 minutes and Leitrim’s slump was completed by the sending-off of Noel Plunkett.

Meanwhile AllIreland champions Dublin made it three wins from three in the Lidl Ladies National Football League Division 1 when they saw off Cork by 3-9 to 1-14 at Croke Park yesterday.

Dublin were cruising when Noelle Healy’s point left them 3-9 to 17 to the good after 38 minutes, but her side failed to register another score as Cork came storming back.

The Rebelettes struck for the next seven points including an effort from Melissa Dugan that might easily have been a goal.

Olwyn Carey (two) and Carla Rowe netted for Dublin who were 25 to 1-6 to the good at the break.
