O’Donnells bounce back
IT MADE my heart sink to see your story on the magnificent new Killiney home of the O’Donnell family.
Solicitor Brian O’Donnell last made the headlines over his Gorse Hill mansion, overlooking Killiney bay, which he was determined to cling on to despite vast debts.
We know the family went into bankruptcy in 2013 with debts of an unimaginable €71m.
Yet a mere five years later, they appear to be preparing to settle down into a property just up the road from their old home and almost as spectacular.
It’s hard to fathom and makes me think of the many thousands of ordinary Irish people who lost their homes in the crash, often thanks to chicanery by the banks over their tracker mortgages.
We don’t see those desperate people bouncing back and buying new homes. It doesn’t seem right. Angela Ryan, Dublin 18.
