Frank McGuinness’s great play Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me continues its tour this week when it visits The Everyman in Cork from tomorrow until Wednesday. A play that should change your attitude to freedom and the minor irritations of life, it’s about three kidnapped prisoners, a doctor, an academic and a journalist, based on interviews McGuinness had with Brian Keenan who spent four years as a kidnap victim in Beirut from 1986 to 1990. The three captives argue, swear, get paranoid and do everything they can to overcome their almost unbearable situation The nationwide tour continues to 13 other venues, finishing in the Iontas Arts Centre in Castleblayney on March 29. Scorch by Stacey Gregg, which runs at The Project Arts until March 3, is a onewoman show, also based on a true story, about a girl who for three years tried to pass herself off as a boy and linked up online and physically with another teenage girl in an attempt at a sexual relationship, with huge emotional and legal repercussions. It’s described as ‘not an apology or an accusation’, just an attempt to get the human story behind the headlines.
