Renowned Irish media lawyer adds disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein to his client list

- By Anne Sheridan

LEADING media lawyer Paul Tweed is now representing Harvey Weinstein following a number of allegations against the disgraced movie mogul in Ireland and the UK.

Mr Tweed, who has established his own firm, has represented Weinstein since December. He has issued a number of statements on behalf of Weinstein to several US media outlets, including USA Today, Time and CBS News.

It is understood Mr Tweed is among a number of lawyers acting for Weinstein, 65, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by more than 60 women.

Zelda Perkins, a former assistant to Weinstein, accused him in a televised interview with the BBC of attempting to rape a colleague of theirs 19 years ago.

Mr Tweed subsequently issued a statement stating: ‘Mr Weinstein categorically denies engaging in any non-consensual conduct or alleged threatening behaviour and will seek the protection of the UK or Irish courts if you proceed with the broadcast of these allegations.’

London Metropolitan Police is investigating a number of complaints against Weinstein and has forwarded one allegation to gardaí for their attention.

Mr Tweed did not comment when contacted by the Irish Mail on Sunday yesterday.

Irish film producer Laura Madden has spoken about her first experience with Weinstein in the Channel 4 documentary Working with Weinstein. She said she first met him in Dublin as the movie Into The West was shooting.

‘I think my first introduction to him was going into his hotel room. I was surprised to see room service had been ordered.’

She added that she ended up being given a massage, that all her clothes ended up coming off and he was robed and performing a sex act. She claimed Weinstein later apologised to her and told her it would never happen again.
