Brakes (15) ★★★★, an improvised portmanteau romcom, is strange indeed, dealing with nine couples whose relationships have ended. The movie is unremittingly bleak: there isn’t one happy soul, nor one couple who don’t bicker all the time. But they’re still more fun
than The Death Of Stalin (15) ★★, a satire with Michael Palin and Jason Isaacs, above, that boasts not a single laugh. We all know life under Uncle Joe was ghastly, but it can’t have been this bad. Christopher Bray
