It should be a ceremonial position, as envisaged by Nickey Brennan. Too often, presidents behave as if they are the executive of the organisation, shaping and driving policy.
That they are not must be made clear by John Horan, who now assumes the role.
What the GAA needs is not aspirational blather. It needs a new director general to bridge the gap between the elite and the disenfranchised, and quickly.
