Don’t go out to Mass – worship online instead, the faithful are advised

- By Craig Hughes

MASS-GOERS have been told to stay at home and access ceremonies online until the dangerous road conditions across the country have been made safe.

The Archdiocese of Dublin circulated a message to parishes informing parishioners that they were under no obligation to attend Mass during the adverse weather conditions. ‘Where weather conditions make it unsafe or where road conditions make it dangerous, imprudent or difficult, there is no obligation to attend Sunday Mass this weekend,’ the statement read. ‘When people are unable to attend Mass it is recommended that they view or listen to the Mass online, on television or radio or that they spend a time in prayer as individuals or as a family.’

Speaking at a media briefing yesterday, Seán Hogan, chairman of the National Emergency Co-ordination Group, urged neighbours to help elderly people to access religious services online where possible and to avoid leaving their homes as a status orange warning remains in place across the country.

‘We might ask one further thing of people, in terms of assisting their neighbours, many parishes stream religious services and I ask people that they might assist neighbours to access those services. It would help people not having to go out of their homes,’ he said.
