Connors under attack after praising store ‘bread raiders’

-

AWARD-WINNING actor John Connors was hit by a wave of criticism yesterday after he initially condoned the looting of a Lidl store.

Nine people were arrested after a JCB was used to demolish part of the shop in Tallaght, southwest Dublin, which led to looting.

Mr Connors who won best actor at the Irish Film and Television Awards for his performance in Cardboard Gangsters, initially tweeted: ‘Put it this way, if I see any young ones or young fellas robbing a few loafs of bread from a big corporation I will not be calling @gardainfo. These c***s are robbing all of us everyday.’ The 28year-old later deleted the tweet and rowed back saying he didn’t realise the scale of what was happening.

‘Obviously I deleted the tweet when I found out what followed the loaves of bread being stole. Not a person alive would condone that,’ he tweeted.

Noel Rock, TD for Dublin North West, tweeted back: ‘Nah John. You just tried too hard to pander to a crowd. And it blew up badly.’ Contacted by the Irish Mail on Sunday, Mr Connors said: ‘Do not call me again. Thank you.’
