True love conquers the Beast

- By Elaine Keogh

‘LOVE trumped the Beast and Emma,’ a happy bride said after she got to enjoy her wedding day despite the bad weather.

Róisín Burns, 28, and Dean Kieran, 33, were determined to go ahead with their big day on Friday, despite the snow making it impossible for people to reach the church in Tierworker, near their village of Mullagh, Co. Meath.

But, after a lot of local assistance and goodwill, the couple ended up tying the knot in a hotel instead.

Róisín said: ‘We had our rehearsal on Wednesday evening and the roads were driveable then. Meath County Council said they would do their best to get the snow ploughs out, but they were all stood down at 2pm on Thursday.’

Róisín was looking for someone with a tractor and plough who could keep roads to Tierworker church clear for the wedding, when the wedding singer said she could not get out of her house.

‘I began to panic a bit,’ the bride admitted. Thankfully the wedding planner at The Headfort Arms Hotel in Kells came to her rescue.

‘Edel Clinch rang me to say we could get married in the hotel if we wanted to.’

The couple pushed back the time of the ceremony by two hours to give guests more time to get there safely.

Róisín used her Facebook page to say: ‘We cannot believe we have so many amazing people in our lives. It was touch and go, but love trumped the beast and Emma.

‘Thank you to all and the amazing The Headfort Arms Hotel for going above and beyond for us.’
