WHAT’S ON

-

Obviously, these notices come with a bit of a health warning to check with the venue before embarking in the ice, snow or slush to catch a show. All being well, tonight Tommy Fleming will be in the Galmont Hotel in Galway, Willy Mason in the Róisín Dubh in the same city while Seventies survivors Heatwave & Odyssey will belt out a host of disco classics in Dublin’s Vicar Street. The Gloaming begin their seven night stand in the National Concert Hall on Monday. Sure, we’ll be wearing T-shirts and shorts by then... French metallers Betraying The Martyrs are in the Dublin Voodoo Lounge on Tuesday and they are well worth catching. It is only a matter of time before country pop queen Catherine McGrath, pictured, gets big; she won’t be playing small venues such as the Oh Yeah Centre in Belfast on Wednesday or the Academy Green Room in Dublin on Thursday forever. Another one to catch before predicted superstardom is Mahalia. The Birmingham soul-pop type is in the Dublin Grand Social on Wednesday.

The Choice Music Prize album and song of the year will be announced on Thursday in Vicar Street. Marlene Enright, Fang club and Other kin are up for the main gong. Tickets can still be found on ticketmaster.ie. The always excellent Dublin trio The Pale take to the stage in Dundalk’s Spirit Store on Friday while country fans will be converging on the 3Arena for the first of the Country To Country 2018 shows. Kacey Musgraves and Sugarland are the bill-toppers on Friday while Emmylou Harris and Little Big Town are the notables on Saturday. Tickets are still available for those shows as well as the closing Sunday show featuring Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. Ahead of his UK and Irish arena dates and leaving his boyband days behind, Niall Horan warms up with a show in the INEC Killarney on Saturday.
