Johnson wants Daly to face France

-

MARTIN JOHNSON has called for Elliot Daly to start at centre against France to help revive England’s Six Nations campaign on Saturday afternoon.

The misfiring squad have been warned by Eddie Jones that places are up for grabs after last week’s defeat by Scotland.

Daly has missed the opening rounds through injury and Johnson believes the Lions star needs an opportunity at No13 before the World Cup.

‘I don’t expect wholesale changes but you can move around the centres and I’d like to see Daly given a go there,’ Johnson told Sportsmail.

‘He’s approaching world class level and he is one of these rugbysavvy guys who can adapt, rather than do the same thing every time.’

‘What England need is depth and there’s still a long way to go before the World Cup.’

After suffering their first Calcutta Cup defeat for a decade, Jones claimed there could be personnel changes in Paris.

The head coach yesterday named a 33man squad ahead of the trip to Paris, with No8 Sam Simmonds recalled after injury.

‘We will definitely have a look to see how we can improve the team,’ said Jones.

‘We are always assessing to see if there’s anyone better than what we’ve got at the moment. They are going to have to have experience, and they are going to have to be able to come up to Test match quality quickly.’
