GOAL SHOULD’VE BEEN MINE…

-

JUST about the only thing that’s gone wrong for Ashley Young this season came when he celebrated his first goal for 18 months against Brighton — only for it latera to be credited as a Lewis Dunk own goal. Young’s left-foot shot from the edge of box deflected off Dunk to give United a 1-0 win and he still feels aggrieved it has not been given in the record books as his.

‘I’ve argued and argued. I thought it was on target and I’m still claiming it,’ he says. ‘I did end up scoring twice against Watford the following week and as soon as the first one went in, I was like, “That is definitely mine”. I’ve got two goals to my name this season — but rightfully it should be three.’

Young got a brace of goals in the 4-2 win at his old club Watford three days after the Brighton match.
