THE words of Ronan Keating came to mind as Gerbrandt Grobler entered the action in Munster’s defeat of Scarlets last week in the Pro14. The signing of the South African lock stirred up a storm of controversy earlier this season given his status as a convicted doper, a decision which didn’t fall in line with the IRFU’s so-called ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards drugs cheats.

There is a feeling that Munster and Grobler will part ways come the end of the season, and his treatment last week was an indication that Munster are fully aware of the discontent that still exists surrounding the signing of the player.

Unlike the rest of the Munster substitutes, Grobler’s introduction was not announced over the Thomond Park PA, the lock quietly replacing Jean Klyen in the 67th minute. ‘You say it best, when you say nothing at all,’ as the song goes.
