optimism that accompanied the high profile appointment of John Evans as Wicklow football manager is likely to have evaporated after a league campaign which saw them finish rooted to the bottom of Division 4.

Bray club Fergal Og’s will not field this year because of insufficient numbers, while the Lacken and Kilbride clubs have decided to amalgamate for the same reason.
Another club Coolboy had to concede a walkover last weekend because they were unable to field a team.
In that context, their league position is the least of Wicklow’s worries.
