Bothwell shines in Oslo

TENNIS: Ireland’s Peter Bothwell yesterday ensured that his side were tied 1-1 with Norway at the end of the first day’s play in their Davis Cup relegation play-off clash in Oslo. Despite being over 410 places adrift in the world rankings — 836 compared to 422 — the 22-year-old Co Down man pulled off a shock win over Norway No2 Viktor Durasovic in the opening singles rubber, 3-6 6-2 6-3. In the second singles the host country levelled as, former world No 107 Casper Ruud beat Simon Carr 6-2 6-1.
