Gordon Elliott saddle the winner of the Grand National on Saturday, the Trim handler will be formally recognised as the outstanding trainer of National Hunt horses on either side of the Irish Sea for the 2017-18 season. Elliott (below) has already claimed the top trainer title at Cheltenham and sent out over 200 winners on home turf as well as 20 in Britain. In terms of win and place money, Elliott has bagged a staggering €5.5m for his owners, €270,000 secured by General Principle’s victory in the Irish Grand National. Elliott is set to rely on Tiger Roll (12/1) and Ucello Conti (25/1) at Aintree as he seeks to execute a National double last achieved by Ted Walsh with Commanche Court and Papillon in 2000 and swell the coffers of connections by a further €643,000. Punters would be well advised not to ignore their chances.
