Club-only month in danger of being worthless
THE Kerry County Board is getting great praise for the manner in which it has utilised this month to get championship games.
In total, there will be 90 championship games played this month but there is a lot of championship football played here with separate club and county championships.
It is a complex system, but it works for us.
But for all that talk of this month being an exclusive month for clubs, getting access to our county players for training is nigh on impossible.
We have found ourselves having lastminute summits to go over tactics ahead of championship games because our county players are still tied up with preparing for the Munster Championship.
It has hurt us and if we lose today’s game against Kerins O’Rahillys we will be dumped into a relegation play-off, which would see us 60 minutes away from losing the senior status we worked so hard to earn last year.
We are not the only ones impacted. If this month is to work as intended, access to their county players is a must for all clubs.
