Barca bounce back to set La Liga record
BARCELONA bounced back from their Champions League exit in midweek by strengthening their grip on the title with a rec’y against Valencia at the Nou Camp.
Luis Suarez (left) and Samuel Umtiti scored early in each half to put the hosts in control but a late penalty, converted by Dani Parejo, made for a nervy finish.
Barcelona moved 14 points ahead of secondplaced Atletico Madrid, who play Levante today, while Valencia sit a further three points back.
The result also saw Barca set a new La Liga record of 39 successive matches without losing, breaking the record set by Real Sociedad almost 40 years ago.
Elsewhere, Paris St Germain’s players are determined to exact revenge on reigning champions Monaco by winning back the Ligue 1 title when the two teams meet at the Parc des Princes today.
Victory for runaway leaders PSG against the team who beat them to the championship by eight points last season would clinch the crown with five games to spare.
‘It will be a small payback after last year, when Monaco won the championship,’ left-back Layvin Kurzawa said.
