Pathetic, my dear Watson...
AS SHERLOCK Holmes and his loyal sidekick Dr Watson, they’re portrayed as the best of friends on the popular series.
But off air it’s a case of man-bags at dawn between Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch, who are at loggerheads over the show.
In an interview last month, Freeman, 46, claimed that playing Watson was no longer fun because of the show’s obsessive fans.
‘It is a mini-Beatles thing,’ he said. ‘People’s expectations, some of it’s not fun any more. It’s not a thing to be enjoyed.’
But Cumberbatch hit back yesterday, saying: ‘It’s pretty pathetic if that’s all it takes to let you not want to take a grip of reality. Because of expectations? I don’t necessarily agree with that.’
Despite Freeman’s reservations, the pair will come face to face again as the show’s co-creator Mark Gatiss has confirmed that Sherlock will return for a fifth season.
‘It will be coming back,’ he said.
