IT FELT like summer had arrived early yesterday, as these two horses cooling off on Sandymount Strand in Dublin will attest.

And the heat is here to stay for the long weekend. Top temperatur­es of 21 degrees today will make Ireland hotter than some parts of the Mediterran­ean.

Weather stations in Dublin and Shannon, Co. Clare, recorded the highest temperatur­es at 20 degrees yesterday, Met Éireann has reported.

But cooler and more unsettled conditions will return from Tuesday.

Today will be warm and dry with spells of sunshine, said a Met Eireann spokesman. arriving in Atlantic coastal counties during the morning, signalling the transition to cooler and more unsettled conditions through the rest of the week.’
