EVERTON BOARD TO THINK AGAIN ON ROONEY EXIT
EVERTON have invited Wayne Rooney’s representatives for crisis talks over the former England captain’s future.
A £12.5million deal has now been agreed in principle for Rooney to move to DC United when the MLS transfer window opens in July but, in what would represent a dramatic U-turn, Everton may now ask Rooney to stay.
The Goodison Park hierarchy are fearful of a backlash from the club’s fans and they have now asked Rooney’s agent, Paul Stretford, to meet them next week.
Despite instigating a possible move away from Everton — it is understood owner Farhad Moshiri authorised approaches by club officials to both DC United and clubs in China — there is now the distinct possibility Rooney will be asked to remain on Merseyside.
Chairman Bill Kenwright is convinced allowing Rooney to leave is a bad idea and has now created enough anxiety among directors to make them reconsider.
