Wee Daniel’s ‘pleasantly plump’ gaffe

- By Jim Gallagher

DANIEL O’DONNELL took a huge risk by calling wife Majella ‘pleasantly plump’ in front of television cameras.

The Donegal crooner came out with the gaffe in the latest episode of the couple’s popular television programme, Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip.

While being shown around Geararoe Guest House in Millstreet, Co. Cork, owner Eily Buckley shows them a unique cabinet in their room, which serves as a table, draughts board and, when a panel is lifted, as a wheelchair.

No sooner are they alone than Majella sits in the chair and Daniel starts to push her.

Then he quips: ‘I don’t think the wheels will take it somehow.’

Majella quickly retorts: ‘Are you suggesting I’m a bit on the heavy side?’

At which point Daniel takes his life in his hands, saying: ‘No, no, no, you’re just pleasantly plump.’

He then makes matters worse by sniggering at his own comment.

The couple were highly impressed with their visit to 85-year-old great-grandmother Eily’s B&B – which she has run on her own since the death of her husband Dan in 2004.

Eily, one of Ireland’s first ever women coach drivers who drove the local school bus for 25 years, said about hosting her celebrity guests: ‘It’s a dream come true, a dream you never dare to have.’

Daniel and Majella’s B&B Road Trip is on RTÉ One on Tuesdays at 8.30pm.
