Time to burst that bubble, Sean

-

SEAN CAVANAGH has always been one of Gaelic football’s most interesting voices as a player, but he sent out some mixed messages this week.

In an interview in midweek he appeared to lament Tyrone’s leaning on a massed defensive gameplan over the past five years, conceding that Kyle Coney, Niall McKenna, Ronan O’Neill and Darren McCurry had never delivered on their true talent.

It did not take much reading between the lines to see that it is a style of football which he was not overly enamoured with, but he made the entirely legitimate point that when a player is ‘inside the bubble’ their take on the game is completely distorted.

Fair enough, but last Sunday evening after he had watched the mind-numbing Galway/ Mayo clash in Castlebar he declared in his new role on the Sunday Game – ‘I have to say I enjoyed that’.

Those Tyrone bubbles must be made of pretty durable plast ic.
