MORE MESS FOR OFFALY

-

DESPITE the 12-point defeat, we saw plenty of positives in Offaly’s first-round display against Galway and I expect them to be really competitive against Kilkenny.

Unfortunately, this week has been about another unfortunate mess for Offaly GAA in a long line of messes, dating back the last 15 to 20 years.

Stephen Wallace’s removal is just the latest case. It’s one disaster after another.

Wallace was critical of his removal but the man was out of order at a game down in Kerry. That didn’t go down well in Offaly. Maybe the time to deal with things was when he got an eight-week ban. If they had lost against Wicklow and he was never involved in an incident in Kerry, there would still be a fall-out.

The Offaly county board put managers in at all grades and yet give them no charter, no mandate, to adhere to. This mad training regime of five and six nights a week shouldn’t be allowed.

You have a high turnover of players and you have to ask why?

We don’t seem to have a vision. If you’re critical of it, you’re ostracised. What infuriates me is that in a year or two, no doubt we’ll be having same conversation.
