Wedding sermon fell flat
I WAS a cynic about the royal wedding of Meghan and Harry and tried to ignore the build-up to it as much as possible.
But in the end, it was impossible not to be moved by the beautiful ceremony. I found myself swept away despite all of my cynical instincts.
There’s something about the wedding of any young couple that is touching: the sense of hope, of a lifetime stretching before them and so many possibilities.
The only false note was the ridiculous sermon by Bishop Michael Curry, which was like a dreadful, hollow imitation of a charismatic sermon.
He had all the right rhythms and gestures but it was repetitious nonsense. He really lost control with that massive, comically obvious history of the importance of fire.
Surely Meghan and Harry could have come up with a better preacher than that? Anne O’Brien, by email.
