Gloss taken off blogger’s Peta anti-cruelty claims
MYSTERY surrounds anticruelty claims of Irish beauty blogger Joanne Larby’s latest product. Joanne, 32, who blogs under the moniker Make up fairy pro, has just launched a range of beauty products under the brand name Glam Fam Cosmetics.
On her personal Instagram page, Ms Larby has stated they are approved by global animal welfare group Peta.
‘Starting at just €9.99 there’s 8 shades of intense cream shadows and 3 illuminating drops all @peta approved,’ said the post.
However, the brand Glam Fam does not appear on any of Peta’s approved databases Beauty without Bunnies, the global gold standard in animal cruelty. When contacted Peta themselves told the MoS that the products are not certified cruelty-free by Peta. ‘In order to make sure a product is truly cruelty-free, check our list, since some companies claim that – and are not up to our cruelty-free standards. Glam Fam is not certified cruelty-free with us, so we cannot say whether or not they are truly cruelty-free,’ they said.
They further urged consumers to check products are cruelty-free.
Repeated contact with Joanne to clarify her claims and to respond to Peta’s statement were ignored this weekend.
The MoS sent an email which was ignored, and a phone call with Ms Larby was mysteriously cut short as we identified ourselves.
Killester native Joanne had forged a name for herself as one of the country’s leading bloggers.
She recently put a lengthy apology on Instagram where she admitted that she had, at times, misled followers in relation to photoshopping images and selling clothing items.
Her claims that her brand are Peta approved were still on her page at the time of going to print.
However, Peta said they would be following up directly with Joanne and the brand in relation to her claims of being approved by them.
