TIMEWORN TRINITY TREE TOPPLES

-

ONE of the oldest trees in Trinity College Dublin came ‘crashing down’ yesterday, with the college saying it will be missed by generations.

The Oregan Maple dated back to the 1840s and had stood proudly opposite its ‘twin’ tree at the Library Square for 170 years. It had been infected with a disease and was being treated, but the tree hollowed out in the middle and was decaying from the inside. Yesterday it fell at 2.30am, causing no damage or injuries.

Twitter followers have suggested that the debris be used to make benches.
