Kiely was convinced that his battlers would not lose

- – DENIS HURLEY

LIMERICK manager John Kiely was left immensely proud of the way his team had refused to accept defeat.

‘Pride is the over-riding feeling that I have,’ he said. ‘I’m very proud of our players and the manner in which they saw out the whole game. They showed huge composure and they never panicked. Even though they fell behind a few times, I actually felt very secure that they weren’t going to lose that game all the way through.

‘It was one error at the back that caused the goal, one player wasn’t tracked and we got turned over in our half-back line, that’s what happens when you get caught out like that.

‘Our response to that goal was superb and it was a very valuable point from our perspective.’

Kiely’s opposite number John Meyler had seen his team denied victory for the second week in a row, but if he was disappointed, he wasn’t showing it.

‘I’m perfectly happy sitting here with four points,’ said the Rebels manager.

‘We’re unbeaten and that’s how we look at it. We came unstuck midway through the second half today and Limerick got three points ahead of us and in fairness they played really well for that period.

‘But for us to come back with three points there at the end and show fantastic character and we showed that last week against Tipperary as well.’ Meyler insisted.

‘Playing three games in 13 days was hard but the lads really rose to the occasion in the last five or 10 minutes.’
